Setting Up Your 2FA

Prev Next

This guide provides the steps to enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for your Visma account. Once completed, your security settings will apply to all Visma applications linked to your profile.

🖼️ Step 1: The Enrollment Wizard

When you first log in or access a secure area, you will be greeted by the 2FA Enrollment Wizard. It looks like this:

📺 Step 2: Choose Your Setup Video

Based on the enrollment screen on your device, choose the path that works best for you:

  • Visma Authenticator: Use this for the fastest experience with one-tap "Push" notifications. Watch the setup video here.

  • Google or Microsoft Authenticator: To use these apps, select the Try another way option on the enrollment screen. Watch the setup video here.

Based on the screen above, select the video that matches how you want to proceed:

💡 Not sure which one to pick? > Click here to visit our 2FA Gallery to compare methods and see exactly what the login looks like for each app.

🛠️ Step 3: Link Your Account

Follow the prompts on your screen. You have two ways to connect your phone:

  • Scan the QR Code: Open your chosen app on your phone and point the camera at the code on your computer screen.

  • On the same device? If you are using your phone for both the website and the app, click "Enter code manually" or "Can't scan QR code?". Copy the secret key provided and paste it into your app.

📱 Step 4: Add a Backup Phone Number (Optional)

After linking your app, you will be asked if you want to add a phone number for SMS verification.

  • Why do this? This acts as a backup. If you lose access to your Authenticator app, you can receive a code via SMS to get back in.

  • How to do it: Enter your phone number and click Next. You will receive a 6-digit code via text—enter this code on your computer screen to verify your number.

  • Want to skip? If you don't want to use SMS, simply click Next without entering a number.

⚠️ Step 5: Save Your Recovery Code (Critical)

The very last step is the generation of your Emergency Recovery Code.

This is your "Master Key." If you lose your phone AND cannot receive SMS, this code is the only way to access your account.

  1. Copy the code and store it somewhere safe (e.g., a password manager or a printed document).

  2. Check the box that says "I have safely copied and stored this code."

  3. Click Next to finish.

Congratulations! Your account is now fully protected.

💡 Troubleshooting

  • No SMS received? Double-check your country prefix and phone number.

  • Notification didn't pop up? Make sure you selected "Allow Notifications" when you first opened the Visma Authenticator app.

  • Code not working? Check that your phone’s time is set to "Set Automatically" in your system settings.
